GCET is an MBA/MCA entrance test. It stands for Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET) and is conducted by the Gujarat Technological University and it is a state level test. GCET is acceptable by GCET MBA and GCET MCA colleges in Gujarat. Thus, this means that a student taking GCET could apply to either GCET based MBA College or a GCET based MCA College in the state of Gujarat only. GCET is generally confused with GUJCET, which is separate from GCET. Recently GCET has been turned into Online GCET where the old pen and pencil format of the test has been replaced by the new format of GCET. Under this new format, all students appearing for GCET have to compulsorily take the test online and for their convenience, GCET could be taken twice and the better of the two GCET scores is considered for final evaluation.
The old format of GCET was conducted by Gujarat University while the new governing body of the same is GTU, which in its inception year changed the conventional GCET into an online one. It is generally considered that the new form of GCET is simpler than the older one, given that the GCET aspirants have been relieved of the GD/PI they had to take after the GCET test in the previous GCET format. Taking such GD/PI was considered of utmost importance as it would decide the GCET rank of the candidate and thus the GCET based MBA/MCA College one could enroll oneself with. Thus, a student appearing for GCET Gujarat 2010 didn’t only have to score high in GCET but also perform well in the following GD/PI to have a good standing. The GCET rank was arrived upon by aggregating the weighted scores of the GCET test and the score of GD & PI.
GCET, in its current format has various paper patterns for three different GCET tests. Thus, there is a GCET MBA test which is meant for all the GCET based MBA colleges. This pattern of GCET has four sections. On the other hand, there is a GCET MCA test which is meant for all the GCET based MCA colleges. This test has all sections of GCET MBA minus the General knowledge section of the test. GCET (including GCET MBA & GCET MCA) gives 80 minutes to the GCET aspirants to complete 100 questions. To provide the GCET aspirants with more options, the third category of the GCET test has been introduced. It is known as GCET MBC. This pattern of the test is different from the pattern of GCET MBA and GCET MCA. The MBC format of GCET gives 96 minutes for 120 questions to the students including 4 sections. GCET MBC, thus, has an additional 20 questions and 16 minutes over GCET MBA and GCET MCA. This format of the test is meant for those students sitting for GCET, who are not certain whether they want to pursue MBA or MCA from GCET based colleges.
